If I can only choose one skin care, I will definitely pick sunscreen without hesitation. I have pigmentation-prone skin so I am really diligent when it comes to sun protection, may it be physical (I use umbrella all the time!) or chemical protection. My mum has pigmentation-prone skin and she inherited the trait to my sisters and I. Hence, we were forced taught to apply sunscreen everyday before going to school, and we were only 12 years old when we started our sun protection journey. The technology and formulation back then are not as advanced as now, and sunscreens are often associated with greasy and oily cream. A decade passed and technology evolved, I'm really happy that today's sunscreens are much lighter and less greasy. Today, I'm going to share my review on Althea Petal Velvet Sunaway SPF50+ PA++++, a lightweight sunscreen that gives you a soft, velvety finish and petal-like skin.

Similar to the other Althea products, Althea Petal Velvet Sunaway SPF50+ PA++++ has a sleek and clean cut packaging. Everything is simple, no-frills yet so elegant and classy. The sunscreen can easily be dispensed from a narrow tip, which I find it convenient and useful in controlling the amount the product to be used.

First thing first, let's make a guess on the main ingredient of Petal Velvet Sunaway. Hint: Find the clue from my photos. 

Aha! Did you guess it right? The answer is flowers! Petal Velvet Sunaway is made from Damask rose extracts, which has a natural nanomolecular composition that is rich in vitamins to penetrate deep into the skin, soothing sensitivities and strengthening it for a radiant glow. Therefore, Althea Petal Velvet Sunaway is able to keep your skin moisturized while providing a powerful UV protection. Speaking of UV protection, the sunscreen has a non-chemical formula to protect the skin from both UVA and UVB rays. SPF 50+ PA++++. 

Beauty Tips: Non-chemical UV filter provides UV protection by building up sunscreen filter on the skin surface, which will then scatter UV light rays away from the skin. The absence of chemical ingredients makes non-chemical sunscreen a great choice for those who with sensitive skin.

I'm going to explain further on how Althea Petal Velvet Sunaway works on UV protection. Basically the sunscreen contains micro particles which act as a barrier on your skin surface, preventing UV light rays from reaching your skin. Apart from this, these micro particles absorb excessive sebum on the skin, hence giving it a velvety and petal alike finish.

What makes Althea Petal Velvet Sunaway extraordinary as compared to the other sunscreens is that, it has a hydrating formula that keeps your skin supple and soft while keeping the shine at bay. I was a bit confused by the product description because how can a product absorb sebum and provide hydration at the same time? That sounds contradictory doesn't it? 

Now this is interesting, the sunscreen is specially formulated in such a way that hyaluronic acid will replenish moisture and deeply hydrate the skin as you apply the sunscreen. How do they do that? It's a trade secret!

The sunscreen is quite watery and it can be spread out effortlessly. I was worried that the sunscreen will give me the horrendous white cast because it looks so white upon dispensing. I quickly spread the sunscreen out and yesh, it doesn't give any white cast!

Look, my skin looks very natural and doesn't look whitish at all, all thanks to the advanced non-chemical UV filter with a more transparent formula. I will totally recommend this to those who are looking for a moisturizing sunscreen, but without a white cast or stickiness. I'm in love with the semi-matte finish that it gives, it gives me a healthy glow while keeping the shine at bay, I'm sold! If you prefer a fully mattified look, complete your make up with Althea Petal Velvet Powder and you will get a porcelain alike skin finish. I would say this is a moisturizer kind of sunscreen as my skin feels extra hydrated and supple after using it for days. 

Moreover, I'm very happy to report that the sunscreen is waterproof. To me, it's very important for a sunscreen to be waterproof as I need it for outdoor activities and strenuous exercises. I'm not sure whether it can be removed by warm water though, I would suggest to remove it using a make up remover.
