Gen Zs Trust User and Expert Insights on Shopee

Shopee’s ‘Engaging Generation Z Shoppers in the Digital Era’ survey findings revealed that 60% of respondents prioritise platforms with easy search, comparison functionalities, and helpful reviews followed closely by comprehensive product information and trustworthiness. This emphasises the importance of building a user-friendly platform brimming with product variety, professional recommendations, and insightful user reviews to capture Gen Z's attention.

Underscoring their research-heavy habits, 30% of Gen Z strategise their purchase, holding over 70% of items in their cart for more than a day to conduct in-depth research before committing to a purchase. This highlights the importance of building a research-friendly environment, which includes offering a rich variety of research products, incorporating professional recommendations, and fostering insightful user reviews.

While research is paramount, a smooth checkout process is equally important. When asked “What will increase your likelihood of checking out your items immediately?”, 6 in 10  Gen Z shoppers focus on user experience features like product restock reminders, flash deals, and voucher applications. Additionally, easy order cancellation and price comparison tools are highly sought after. The remaining 40% look for efficient platform delivery services to finalise their purchases.

Gen Z put importance on value maximisation in their purchasing decisions. Free shipping, competitive pricing, attractive promotions, discounts and vouchers are critical motivators for 83% of respondents, demonstrating their focus on getting the most for their money. Interestingly, product quality appears to be a secondary factor when choosing a purchase channel.

Shopee’s ‘The Future of Shopping’ Study Reveals Gen Z Purchase Habits

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, officially unveils the ‘The Future of Shopping: Engaging Generation Z Shoppers in the Digital Era’ study. The study discovered that 7 in 10 Generation Z (Gen Zs) consumers aged 18 to 24 leverage e-commerce platforms as the primary touchpoint in their shopping journey. This highlights a critical shift, with Gen Z actively utilising these platforms to gather information and conduct in-depth research before committing to a purchase.

Findings revealed a continued preference for e-commerce platforms despite exploring alternative channels for product research and discovery. A significant 68% of Gen Z respondents demonstrate a higher purchase completion rate on e-commerce platforms. 18% of Gen Zs prefer to explore products on social commerce platforms, while the remaining 14% opted to finalise transactions through other channels.

Enhancing Service Quality for Gen Zs

Interestingly, when asked, “What information do you search for when shopping for a product?”, a significant 67% actively seek out positive recommendations, emphasising the importance of high customer reviews and influencer endorsements. This focus on external validation aligns with their value for user trust. They view clear communication of product benefits and effectiveness as justification, prioritising products that deliver strong value for money over affordability (16%) and quality (17%).

SPX Express Optimises Logistics Network, Accelerates E-commerce Delivery by 30%

SPX Express (SPX), Shopee's trusted logistics partner, celebrates a nationwide boost in e-commerce efficiency with the opening of the new Bukit Raja Sorting Centre in Klang, Selangor. Since January 2024, SPX has achieved a 30% improvement in delivery times for parcels travelling from Klang Valley to non-Klang Valley regions. SPX continuously improves their overall logistics network across Malaysia; 50% of customers can now receive their orders in three days or less.

In 2024, SPX aims to further increase their delivery capacity and area coverage, improve end-to-end user experience, and reduce costs to better serve Malaysians. Shopee’s 2024 Fashion Show, ‘Raya Stail Kita’, Celebrates Malaysia’s Golden Age of Culture

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, on 5th March 2024, unveiled its #ShopeeRaiLokal Raya Stail Kita fashion show on Shopee Live, to inspire Malaysians nationwide to dress well and buy local. Themed ‘Tarakucha Retro’, Shopee collaborated with long-term sellers, celebrities, and influencers to style Malaysians for three 2024 trends this Raya: kek lapis, burnt orange, and nostalgia with a twist.

Shopee Unveils 2024 Raya Fashion Trends Online

Today, Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, unveiled Raya Stail Kita study of Malaysian shopping preferences online this Ramadan and Raya season. The survey of over 1,000 online shoppers conducted last month reveals a rich tapestry of influences, from modest wear to nostalgic traditions, guiding Malaysians’ personal fashion styles and beauty trends. Every year, the platform observes its peak e-commerce shopping and delivery periods for 52 days over Ramadan and Raya as Malaysians actively seek clothes and accessories to prepare for balik kampung.



The overwhelming majority of Malaysians, over 9 in 10 surveyed, are driven to shop foremost by coordinating looks with their whole family this Raya. Within this group, 50% want colour-coordinated outfits, 16% match in comfort and practicality for specific functions, 14% pick one fabric, brand, or theme to wear, and 12% pick a 2024 trend to follow. Only a minority, 8%, of shoppers do not consider what their families are wearing when they shop online.

In selecting the style of their Raya outfits, half of Malaysian shoppers express preference for statement-making layers of colours, patterns, and fabrics, such as eye-popping vibrant prints from Bayu Somerset, bright sampins from Zoey Rahman’s Mikawear,  and textured lace by Zoe Arissa. Four in ten preferred nostalgic and traditional styles such as checkered print sarongs from Asikin Ahmad and kaftan kurungs from Hernes.  Whereas 15% are searching for outfits in a particularly trending colour from sellers like Inhanna, Indah Persona, Panda Eyes, and Adnaa as they type ‘red brick,’ ‘brown orange’, or ‘bata merah,’ in their keywords on Shopee’s search bar.

MGTC & Shopee’s "Jom Beli Produk Hijau" Campaign Sees Malaysians Embrace Sustainable Shopping

The "Jom Beli Produk Hijau" campaign, a collaboration between the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) and Shopee, successfully promoted sustainable shopping habits among Malaysians. Running for four months from September to December 2023, the campaign aimed to encourage eco-conscious consumption and promote sustainability in Malaysia's marketplace.

The campaign achieved 100% voucher utilisation of RM60,000 on MyHIJAU-tagged products, a green product recognition scheme endorsed by the government. This accomplishment demonstrates a strong commitment from Malaysian consumers to support local sustainable products and indicates a significant shift towards environmentally friendly purchasing habits.  

A total of 1,195 local sellers participated, listing over 3,600 green products. Paper products emerged as the top-performing category, accounting for 73% of total sales. Paint closely followed, representing 17% of total sales, while cleaning products accounted for 9%. The remaining sales were attributed to Biomass Packaging and Kitchenware categories, showcasing the diverse array of sustainable options available to consumers.



Homegrown brands such as PaperOne, Readycare, and Bina Paint were among the top sellers, resonating with Malaysian consumers due to their commitment to environmental stewardship and the quality of their sustainable products, further driving the success of the 'Jom Beli Produk Hijau' campaign.

Shopee Affiliates Embrace Authenticity & Personalisation in 2024

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia & Taiwan, has conducted their ‘Championing Inclusive Commerce 2024’1 study involving over 3,000 affiliates, revealing a resounding positive sentiment for the year ahead. The results highlight a significant trend towards humanised content and increased immersive experience of livestream.

Shopee Affiliates are emerging as key players in shaping consumer perceptions. The study reveals that over two-thirds of affiliates are eager to create more personalised content, emphasising authenticity and genuine engagement. This trend is underlined by the staggering 420% increase in affiliate-driven orders last year, with over 60,000 new affiliates joining the Shopee ecosystem in 2024 so far.

Kenneth Soh, Head of Marketing at Shopee Malaysia said “We have outstanding affiliates who have driven exceptional traffic growth, lending credibility to local sellers and brands through quality content that resonates with Malaysians. As we step into 2024, it is time to embrace authenticity and personalisation. Our study supports this, with 75% of our exceptional affiliates expressing a desire to humanise e-commerce experience and wanting to connect with their customers through relatable stories and genuine experiences.”

The survey highlighted a shift towards leveraging Shopee Live, with 93% of affiliates expressing a desire to grow further using this platform. Additionally, 87% of the surveyed respondents indicated plans to conduct more live streams, incorporating interactive features like polls to create dynamic and participative audience experiences while 94% foresee more local consumers engaging with the platform.

The study discovered that 9 in 10 Affiliates are feeling positive for their e-commerce opportunities in 2024. These affiliates are excited to humanise e-commerce with increased personalisation, engage with more users on posts and livestreams, and drive more traffic for local sellers aligned with their values.


The Rise of Human-Centric Content 

When asked on the e-commerce trends they are most excited to embrace in 2024, 75% of affiliates were enthusiastic about creating more personalised content for their audiences. Shopee Affiliates want to have more authentic engagements with their audiences (30%), seek to personalise their content further through product education posts and livestreams (30%), while the remaining want to collaborate with more local businesses to drive awareness (15%).
